Wire mesh and perforated metal are often used for inline pipe strainers due to their lower material costs and light weight. However, in complex designs such as these bathtub strainers built by Screen Services to the client's specifications, wedge wire screen should also be considered. Vee-Wire can be very competitive due to lower fabrication costs, and has superior strength, more open area, and the non-clogging continuous slot provides the maximum effective flow area and maintains operating efficiency. As predicted, the wire mesh and perforated strainer had a short lifetime. Screen Services suggested a strainer fabricated with wedge wire. The resulting strainer as seen below, is much simpler and cleaner than the former, and yet has the same opening size, and a greater open area, and will provide a much longer life due to its very strong construction.
